Scope

This tutorial covers the process to set up a POP3 email account in Mozilla Thunderbird 1.5.

Requirements

In order to use your email account with Thunderbird, you will need the following information which can be obtained from your Internet Service Provider (ISP) or Web Hosting Provider.
SiriuS clients have received this information in their welcome email. If you lost the information, please contact us and we will resend the required inormation ASAP (SiriuS clients only).

You will need the following information:

  • your email address
  • your account name (for SiriuS clients that is the same as your full email address)
  • your email password
  • the incoming mailserver(POP3 or IMAP) address
  • the outgoing mailserver (SMTP) address

Setting up your email account

Start Thunderbird. Go to Start - All Programs. Locate Thunderbird and click it.

When you first start Thunderbird, the Account Wizard will start automatically.
If you have been using Thunderbird and wish to add a new email account,
go to Tools - Account Settings and click on 'Add Account'.
In the Account Wizard choose Email account and click 'Next'.

Now enter your name and your email address and click 'Next'.

Now enter the server information. Select POP and enter the incoming and outgoing server addresses.
Depending on your personal preference either check or uncheck 'Use Global Inbox' option and click 'Next'.

In the User Names window enter your account name (full email address) and click 'Next'.

Here you can enter a name for your new email account, f.i. 'Work'.
Click 'Next' to continue.

You're done! Check your settings and click on 'Finish'.
